GST Intelligence May Soon Start Electronic Surveillance

Electronic Surveillance Under GST

The indirect tax department is all set to extend the tracking on the defaulting businessman and traders with its electronic surveillance. It is said that GST intelligence will be getting rights for electronic surveillance.

This electronic surveillance will provide added shield on GST evasion by the means of surveillance of mobile call/message data, personal desktop IPs and all the relevant communication devices used by the businessman.

The GST intelligence arm will be decoding the e-mails as well as tape the phone calls for additional input on the fraudsters. However, for this, the GST intelligence wing has to take permission from ADG (GST).

This will also improve the GST recovery and would solve out the GST evaders helping the GST department to blacklist them from further corrupted dealings.

The electronic surveillance is currently limited to only 10 organization of the government of India. Now the GST intelligence will be seeking such rights through the application filed in the home ministry.

It is worth noting that the GST department had found evasion of around INR 50,000 last year in which it could only recover INR 12,000 crore from the faulty GST evaders.
