In January 2026, Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections of India have attained Rs 1,93,384 crore, exhibiting a robust year-on-year rise of 6.2 per cent. In January 2025, Rs 1,82,094 crore was the revenue.

Cumulatively, from April to January FY26, gross GST receipts of Rs 18,43,423 crore, up 8.3 per cent compared to Rs 17,01,891 crore in the same period last year.

In January 2026, domestic GST revenue surged to ₹1,41,132 crore, marking a 4.8% increase from Rs 1,34,641 crore in January 2025. For the period of April to January in FY26, total domestic GST collections reached ₹13,49,795 crore, representing a 6.6% growth from ₹12,66,741 crore in the previous financial year.

Import-related GST also performed strongly, with revenue rising to Rs 52,253 crore in January 2026, up from ₹47,453 crore in the same month last year, showing a rise of 10.1%. For the April to January period in FY26, GST revenue from imports totalled ₹4,93,628 crore, an increase of 13.4% compared to the previous year.

When refunds are taken into account, total GST payouts in January 2026 were Rs 22,665 crore, which is a decrease of 3.1% from ₹23,393 crore in January 2025.

Till now, in the present fiscal year, cumulative refunds reached Rs 2,47,672 crore, up 18.9% over last year.

After accounting for refunds, net GST revenue for January 2026 stood at Rs 1,70,719 crore, marking a 7.6% surge over Rs 1,58,701 crore collected in the same month in 2025.

In January, the government collected various taxes: Central GST, which is the tax collected by the central government, amounted to Rs 38,792 crore. The State GST, collected by the state governments, reached Rs 47,817 crore.

Additionally, Integrated Goods and Services Tax, which is applicable for inter-state transactions, totalled Rs 1,06,775 crore. The net compensation cess, a type of tax designed to support state revenues, was recorded at Rs 5,768 crore for the same month.

Sources from the Government said that the numbers for January are provisional and may be revised in the final settlement.

They cited that the data “indicates stable consumption trends and steady tax compliance, supporting revenue growth during the current financial year.”
