FM Jaitley Setting ‘War Room’ for Keeping Eye on GST Implementation

A meeting regarding the GST application and its roll out was turned out to ensure that the timeline can be achieved within the framework, in which finance minister Arun Jaitley took a firm decision to establish a ‘war room’ to tackle the oncoming hurdles of GST.

The war room establishment is reviewed on the daily basis checking status and monitoring of the implementation of GST. The Infosys CEO Vishal Sikka also attended the meeting along with some senior officials of the ministry, and all were keen to discuss the issues over GST.

As of now, Infosys is about to release the network in 22 states apart from Maharashtra, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, are setting up the system themselves which requires being linked with the central network. The contract is for 5 years in which Infosys would be developing as well as maintaining the IT network.

The Finance ministry is not sure that what tax slabs should be included in the software and this confusion has led to the delayed procedure development of the networking software. The confusion has generated between the Indian Revenue officers who were also against the sharing of National Security Data from the private organizations and also met with Finance Minister in a private meeting.

After the meeting, Infosys CEO Sikka, said “there are many pockets where there is weak preparedness at this moment” while he also addressed some issue on which the government assured to take a note.

The Winter Session is coming ahead and there it is likely to get some extended sessions for the GST legislations to be discussed and to integrate both the Central GST and State GST in line.
