GST on the liquid jaggery also called raab would be diminished to nil or 5%. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman reported that the GST on “Raab” has been cut from 18% to zero if it is loose during the 49th meeting of the GST Council. Nevertheless, if it is pre-packaged and labelled packages, a GST of 5% will be charged.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman stated that “Raab is a kind of liquid jaggery that is so typical to Uttar Pradesh and other jaggery-producing states. We are reducing the GST slab rate on Raab from 18% to nil or 5%. Nil if it is loose. If it is pre-packaged and labelled, it will be 5%,”

Raab, a hot, nutritious beverage similar to porridge prepared from wheat, jaggery, and ghee, is given to new mothers or people with low energy to boost their immune systems. It is regarded as one of the natural cures for coughs and colds. When you consume it hot, your throat feels soothed.

Also, it is administered to those who are recuperating from sickness to help them regain strength and stamina.

Other than Raab, the GST on pencil sharpeners and some tracking equipment has been cut. The minister also stated that the GoM (Group of Ministers) findings on preventing tax cheating by industries, as well as Goods and Services Tax Appellate Tribunals (GSTATs), have been taken into consideration.

She said that all GST compensation debts, including the Rs 16,982 crore due for the month of June, will be paid in full. The GST Council has resolved to rationalize late fines for filing yearly GST returns after the deadline, the finance minister added.

Senior officials from the Union Government and the states, as well as the finance ministers of the states and UTs (with the legislature), attended the meeting.
