DGGI Issues Press Release to Verify Fake GST Summons Before Responding

DGGI Notifies Press Release Against GST Summons

Certain individuals with bogus intent are forming and sending bogus summons to taxpayers who may or may not be under investigation by the DGGI, The Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI), Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) notices.

Bogus summons that are sent look real as they secure the Document Identification Number (DIN), however, such DIN numbers are not being issued via DGGI for the case of such entries. To deal with such problems, DGGI is taking measures via informing and filing the complaints with the police against those engaged in making and sending the bogus summons.

Circular No. 122/41/2019-GST was issued by CBIC on 05th November 2019 for the generation and quoting of DIN on communications sent by CBIC officers to assess.

For the taxpayer’s awareness, it is reminded that they can confirm the genuineness of any communication (including Summons) from the Department via the ‘VERIFY CBIC-DIN’ window on the CBIC’s website or the DIN Utility Search on the online portal of the Directorate of Data Management (DDM), CBIC.

An individual assesses who obtain the summons from the DGGI/CBIC formations that looks suspicious or bogus might report them to the related jurisdictional DGGI/ CBIC office for verification so that the required measure against those liable for such bogus activity could be opted.
