Commerce Ministry Achieves 60 Outreach Programmes Till Now in GST

After the execution of Goods and Services Tax (GST) since 1st July across the country, the commerce ministry has arranged 60- outreach programs for members of trade and industry for solving issues related to the new indirect tax regime according to the official. GST cells established by the ministry for all Public Sector Undertakings (PSU’s) which includes MMTC, STC, India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO), and PEC, all of them comes under the purview of ministry.

The official said that The main aim of arranging outreach programs is to spread awareness and information related to the new indirect tax regime to all stakeholders. Apart from these, state-run firms, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) and different regional offices have arranged a GST facilitation cells to solve the queries and issues of exporters and importers.

All Custom officials and the senior officials of the ministry are attending the GST outreach programs which are being arranged by Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) and different export promotion councils, said official.

However, the commerce ministry is also taking steps to solve the queries of exporters related to the new indirect tax regime, President of FIEO has requested to resolve the issue related to the liquidity crunch.

Ganesh Kumar Gupta, President of FIEO said in a statement, “Besides the high cost of credit which has been blunting the competitive edge of our exports, restriction on interstate job work from unregistered suppliers are also some of the other major issues which should be looked into by the government.” He further added that order booking position which is going to start from October onwards is not very auspicious and also, enhancing pressure on liquidity under the new regime might influence exports in the last quarter of 2017.
