CCEA Clears INR 2,256 Crore Worth Project Saksham For GST Rollout

Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has given a relaxing news to the CBEC by sanctioning a good Rs. 2,256 crore to help build them IT structure which will link CBECs system with GST network. The decision is taken to encounter the timeline of 1 April 2017, the roll out of GST.

The project Saksham which is a new Tax network of CBEC was approved and will be aided by the amount to generate the required IT network. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved Project Saksham.

The official statement said that, “The total project cost involved is Rs 2,256 crore, which will be incurred over seven years, All taxpayers/importers/exporters/dealers under various indirect tax laws administered by CBEC — presently about 36 lakh — are likely to go up to over 65 lakh after introduction of GST.”

Also, the said statement mentioned, “This IT infrastructure is also urgently required for continuation of CBEC’s e-services in Customs, central excise and service tax, implementation of taxpayer services such as scanned document upload facility, an extension of Indian Customs SWIFT initiative and integration with government initiatives such as e-Nivesh, e-Taal and e-Sign.”

The initiatives have taken pace to cover the new taxation scheme GST, which is planned to imply on 1 April 2017, absorbing all the indirect taxes currently prevailing in the nation.
