The Income Tax Department has introduced an updated Excel-based feature for submitting Income Tax Returns (ITR). This utility covers various forms from ITR-1 to ITR-7 and is specifically designed to meet the diverse filing requirements of taxpayers for the Financial Year 2022-23, corresponding to the AY 2023-24.
ITR 1: This form is for resident individuals (other than not ordinarily resident) with a total income of up to Rs. 50 lakh, including income from salaries, one house property, other sources (such as interest), and agricultural earnings up to Rs. 5 thousand.
ITR 2: This form is for individuals and Hindu Undivided Families (HUFs) who do not have income from profits and gains of profession or business.
ITR 3: This form is for individuals and HUFs who have income from profits and gains of business or profession.
ITR 4: This form is for resident individuals, HUFs, and firms (excluding LLPs) with a total income of up to Rs. 50 lakh and income from business and profession computed under sections 44AD, 44ADA, or 44AE, along with income generated from agriculture is up to Rs. 5 thousand.
ITR 5: This form is for individuals other than – (i) Individual, (ii) HUF, (iii) Company and (iv) individual filing form ITR-7.
ITR 6: This form is for companies other than those claiming exemption under section 11.
ITR 7: This form is for individuals and companies needed to file returns under sections 139(4A), or 139(4B), or 139(4C), or 139(4D) only.
As individuals and businesses prepare for the tax season on the way, the launching of the updated Excel-based feature is expected to improve the overall tax filing experience, making it more transparent and straightforward. Taxpayers are advised to stay updated with the latest information from the Income Tax Department and utilize the updated utility for a hassle-free filing experience in the next financial year.
