The government of India (GOI) has now made Aadhar Card mandatory to open any bank account. As per the recent orders given by the Central Government, every individual will have to show his/her Aadhar Card number to open any new bank account as well as for any transaction of over Rs 50,000.
The orders further added that every existing account holder will have to register their Aadhar number till December 31, 2017. If not, their accounts will be considered as invalid.
As a recall, the previous decision of making Aadhar number necessary to file an Income tax return also caused disputes between the public and the GOI. Apart from that, GOI has also made the Aadhar number mandatory to get a new PAN card.
The dispute also went to the Supreme Court, on which the court had announced that Aadhar Card number could not make mandatory till the final decision of the constitution bench. Although, the court also said the GOI can not force anyone who doesn’t have an Aadhar Card to join it from PAN card, but the people having Aadhar card will have to join them with their PAN cards.
