Assam Becomes First in States to Act Upon GST Regime

Assam being the first state to take a step towards implementing GST as the registration process initiated which will be taking down the details of all the taxpayers and making them enlisted into the taxation list.

The state tax authorities have started gathering all the details of registered dealers or taxpayers like mobile numbers and e-mail Ids, under Value Added Tax (VAT), Central Sales Tax(CST), entry tax, luxury tax and entertainment tax to provide goods and services identification number (GSTIN) on a provisional basis.

The official announcement from the departments itself stated, “It has been asked them to furnish the mobile number and email ID on or before November 5, 2016. Failing to submit details on time, the GST number will not be generated. Moreover, such dealers will be disabled to upload their tax returns and apply for statutory forms under the existing acts.”

The procedure to obtain GSTIN is simply logging on the tax department website of the Assam government and there feeding the mobile number, PAN and e-mail ID will send the number on concerned data.

As a matter of fact, Assam was also the first state to ratify the GST bill on 12 August after it was passed by the parliament on 8 August. A constitution amendment requires ratification by 50% of state assemblies before presidential assent and now as the president has given the green signal to the bill, it is now a law and in this direction, GST council will be preparing everything from little to large in order to implement and make it a success in the Indian economy.
