Chandigarh the union territory of India collects 83.10% of GST from April 2020 to July 2020. The city has exceeded the country for filing ITR in the lockdown phase and follows the union territories such as Gujarat with 81.44% and Punjab with 81.10% of GST collections.
From the sources, it shows that the union territory department of excise and taxation has collected GST of Rs 14 crore in April, Rs 42 crore in May, Rs 73 crore in June and Rs 109 crore in the month of July. As the COVID 19 lockdown relaxed in May month, the commercial units tried opening partially and further helped the government to gain some growth in the matter of tax collections.
In Union territory, nearly 30,000 commercial units come for paying GST. from these units around 16,500 pays the tax to the taxation dept for the administration of UT and the rest goes to the central excise dept. The monitoring of the tax has been done by 9 teams also they help payers for filing the tax.
