7% More GST Rate on Apparel, Fabrics & Footwear from Jan 2022

12 Percent GST Rate on Fabrics, Apparel and Footwear

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs mentioned the rise in GST rate from 5 to 12 per cent on Fabrics, Apparel, and Footwear initiated from January 2022.

The major thing under the urged rise is to rectify the issues of the inverted duty framework as being seen through the small textile value chain which is talked about in the 45th GST council meeting.

GST rate for Woven fabrics, Sewing thread of man-made filaments, liable for or not for retail sale, Synthetic filament yarn (other than sewing thread), not for retail sale, consisting of the synthetic monofilament of more concise with respect to the 67 decitex, Artificial filament yarn (other than sewing thread), not for retail sale, consisting of the artificial monofilament of lower than 67 decitex, Knotted netting of twine, cordage or rope; produced of fishing nets and another is made up nets, of textile materials, Pile fabrics, and a long pile‖ fabrics and terry fabrics, knitted or crocheted, Blankets and travelling rugs, Bed linen, table linen, toilet linen and kitchen linen, Curtains (consiitng of drapes) and interior blinds; curtain or bed valances, Sacks and bags, of a type practiced for packing of goods, Tarpaulins, awnings and sunblinds; tents; sails for boats, sailboards or landcraft; camping goods, Sets, engaging the woven fabric and yarn, whether or not with accessories, for making up into rugs, tapestries, embroidered tablecloths or serviettes, or similar textile articles, put up in packings for retail sale, and others has been grown from 5% to 12%.

Moreover, the GST rate on articles of apparel of any value is risen by 12% but before that, the GST rate was 5% for sale value of Rs 1000 per piece. The GST rate had risen to 12% which the form was 5% for the sale value of Rs 1000 per pair towards the footwear no matter on what price it sold.
