Amazing! Close To 10 Crore GST E Way Bills Generated Till Now

The E Way Bill introduced under the GST has been a great success and the data proves it. Since inception on April 1, 2018, the total number of E-Way Bills generated sums up to 9 crores 42 lakhs. These include both interstate and intrastate bills. The same was confirmed by the GST Network Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mr.Prakash Kumar. He also informed that the on June 13 alone the maximum number of 20 lakh e-bills were issued.

The E-Way Bill system under GST mandates traders to generate E-Way Bills for transport of goods of worth greater than Rs 50,000 within or outside state boundaries. Traders, as well as Transporters, must register on the GST network to avail E-Way Bill facilities under GST. the E-Way Bill is now functioning in almost all Indian States and Union Territories.

The states which enjoy a thriving manufacturing centre are the ones who have outshined others in E-Way bill generation. These include states like Gujarat, Maharashtra, Haryana, Tamil Nadu and Delhi. As per data shared by Mr.Prakash Kumar, Manufacturing states outperformed others in terms of intrastate E-Way Bills. On the contrary, Uttar Pradesh was the flag bearer in interstate E-Way bills. Followed closely by Karnataka, Gujarat, Haryana and Andhra Pradesh.

Reportedly, an efficient GST E-Way bill was pivotal for curbing tax evasion in the GST system as well as increasing Tax compliance. Following its premature introduction in February 2018, the E-Way Bill system was relaunched on from April 1 in a phase-wise manner.

And since then the system has performed brilliantly sans any technical or operational glitches. Information like the value of the goods being transported, the source and the destination, the number of receipts etc needs to be furnished during E-Way bill generation. Post introduction it has increased tax compliance as well as generated greater than ever tax revenue.
